Janico Bio Company (JNBC surl) is a social enterprise, which works and focuses especially in green economy in Burundi. We are transforming agricultural waste into biochar for soil fertility and environment protection, on the other hand, we are transforming agricultural waste into ecofriendly charcoals as source of energy.
Officially created in November 2022, the idea had started in 2020 during the trip
of NIRAGIRA JUSTE to China where he witnessed the advanced protection of the environment through circular economy.
After the trip, NIRAGIRA JUSTE (CEO) created JANICO BIO COMPANY (JNBC surl) which is producing biochar and ecofriendly charcoals. The biochar that we produce is an alternative to organic and chemical fertilizer and the ecofriendly charcoals the alternative to woods and coals from trees. We also create jobs when collecting this agricultural waste considered as raw materials.
Actually, we are working in partnership with individuals (young jobless people), local farmers and different cooperatives. Our target is to make sure that agricultural waste is collected for a sustainable supply of our raw materials.

UN SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS (SDGs) THAT WE IMPACT.
NO POVERTY (SDG 1)
Our use of agricultural crop residues as raw materials for our products creates economic opportunities for farmers and rural communities, reducing poverty and promoting sustainable livelihoods.
EDUCATION (SDG 4)
We have a positive impact on SDG 4 by raising awareness among young people about the impact of climate change, teaching them the importance of sustainability and providing them with practical skills on how to transform crop residues into biochar and ecofriendly charcoals.
CLEAN AND AFFORDABLE ENERGY (SDG 7)
We produce ecofriendly charcoals that contribute to combating deforestation and are cheaper than firewood and charcoals from trees.
DECENT WORK AND ECONOMIC GROWTH (SDG 8)
Our production process and the marketing of our products create employment opportunities for local communities, contributing to economic growth and development.
SUSTAINABLE CITIES AND COMMUNITIES (SDG11)
Our ecofriendly charcoals reduce deforestation, promote sustainable consumption patterns and contribute to the creation of sustainable cities and communities.
RESPONSIBLE CONSUMPTION AND PRODUCTION (SDG 12)
Our use of agricultural crop residues as raw materials for our biochar and ecofriendly charcoals products promotes responsible consumption patterns by reducing the amount of waste generated by agricultural activities, preserving resources and minimizing environmental impact.
CLIMATE ACTION (SDG 13)
By using biochar in soils, we contribute to the permanent sequestration of Carbon. Thus, we contribute to SDG 13 by reducing carbon emissions. LIFE ON LAND (SDG 15) By using crop residues as raw materials instead of trees in our production process, we protect and restore terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, and combat desertification. By using biochar in our land as biofertilizers instead of applying chemicals fertilizers , we halt and reverse land degradation and reverse biodiversity loss.
PARTNERSHIPS FOR THE GOALS (SDG 17)
We collaborate with various stakeholders such as farmers, local communities, NGOs, and government agencies to achieve our sustainable development goals.
